B. There are four kinds of genders. They are

1. Masculine gender - stands for males Ex. boy, man

3. Common gender - common for both males and females.

4. Neuter gender - Neither male nor female. Ex. Pen, chair, book.


Formation of genders :
1. Masculine gender, can be changed into feminine gender by adding “ess”

prince – princess
2. Sometimes the form is slightly changed before adding “ess”

waiter = waitress
emperor = empress

3. Sometimes they are different words altogether.

Grammar - Sentence and kinds of sentences.

1. What is a Sentence?
A. A Sentence is a group of words that makes a complete sense.

Ex : Birds build their nests.

2. How many kinds of sentences are there ? What are they?
A. There are four kinds of sentences. They are

a) Declarative sentences : They declare or state something . They may be positive or negative sentences.

They start with a capital letter and end with a full stop.
Ex. Gopi goes to school daily. (Positive statement)
Ravi never completes his work. (Negative statement)

b) Interrogative sentence : They are used to ask questions. They start with a capital letter and end with a question mark.

Ex : Where do you live?
Can you drive a car?

c) Exclamatory sentences : They show sudden feelings like surprise, anger, etc. They start with a capital letter and end with an exclamatory mark.

Ex : Oh, my skin !
Hurrah, we won the match!

d) Imperative sentences : Advices, orders and requests are called imperative sentences.

Ex: Respect your elders. - advice
Get out of the class. -order
Please give me a glass of water. - request

They start with a capital letter and end with a full stop.

Composition – I : Rainy Day
After the hot summer season I was eagerly waiting for the rainy season to begin. The black clouds and the little droplets of water made me feel that rainy season has begun. I like rainy day because on a rainy day, I love to go out and play. The droplets of rain give us joy and fun. My friends and I love to make paper boats and leave them in puddles of water. It looks as though the entire nature had a bath and is fresh and beautiful again to face the world.
My mother prepares some hot snacks like pakodas and chat items, which adds
to the fun.

Composition II : Trees

Trees are our best friends. They add to the beauty and the very life to nature. Trees give us food, fodder, fuel and paper. Leaves, barks, fruits and roots of some trees are used as medicines. They cause rainfall. Trees and plants keep the air pure, fresh and cool. Trees give us shade and shelter to the birds.
But, these days people are cutting down the trees for various reasons. Because of this, animals and birds are losing their shelter. It is affecting the rainfall also.

GRAMMAR;
Verb : A Verb is a word that tells something about the action done. It is also called as an action word.
It also shows the state of being of a Noun or a Pronoun : Ex. She is a singer.

How many kinds of Nouns are there? What are they?

There are four kinds of Nouns. They are :
a) Common Noun : A Common Noun is a name given in common to every person, place, animal, thing or event of the same class or kind. Ex. Girl, country, book, town.
b) Proper Noun : A Proper Noun is the name of some particular person, place, thing or event.
Ex. India , Raman, Maruti Car, Asian Games.

C] Collective Noun: It is the name of a number (or collection) of persons or things taken together and spoken of as one whole; as, Eg. The crowd was very big.

D] Abstract Noun : An Abstract Noun is usually the name of a quality, action or state which we normally cannot see or touch. Ex. He is known for his honesty.


Composition : Chacha Nehru

Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14th November, 1889. He is one of my favourite leaders. He is seen in photographs wearing a white achkan, pyjama and a Gandhi cap. In the button hole near the neck, he wears a red rose.
Nehruji is lovingly known as “Chacha.” November 14th, his birthday is celebrated as “Children’s Day” all over India.
Nehruji was a great freedom fighter. He became the first Prime Minister of free India. He did a lot for India’s progress. He died on 27th May, 1964. He will always be remembered as the builder of Modern India.

The Peacock :

The peacock is our National Bird. Its feathers are deep blue and green. It has wings, but it can not fly very high.
When the male bird spreads out its long tail feathers like a fan, it looks very graceful. The female bird is not as pretty as the male is. She is called a peahen. The peacock’s cry sounds sweet. We often hear its cry in the monsoon.
The peacock eats grains, worms and snakes. It is famous for its graceful dance and loud cry.

Composition I : A visit to the Railway Station

Yesterday I went to the Railway station to receive my uncle. It seemed to be a noisy place. People were shouting, engines were whistling and trains were arriving in and departing. The platform was crowded with hundreds of passengers who seemed to be waiting for the train.
The station was a huge place. There was a big waiting hall for the passengers. There were book stalls and tea stalls on every platform. Porters were carrying luggage on their heads.
It was a good experience and I wish I could visit it again.

Composition:

The National Emblem of India is taken from the Sarnath Lion. The Government adopted the emblem on 26th January, 1950, the day when India became a Republic. In the original emblem, there are four lions, standing back to back. But only three lions are visible as the fourth is hidden from view.
